On September 23, ex-Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s opposition party, For Georgia, signed the Georgian Charter, a president-initiated roadmap for advancing Georgia’s EU integration, the party official confirmed to Civil.ge

Almost all opposition parties signed the Georgian Charter in early June, but Gakharia remained one of the exceptions. At that time, the party said it agreed with the Charter in principle but cited concerns about the provision for slating early elections in 2025, which “leads to a political and legal deadlock.”

Gakharia’s decision to join the Charter follows a week of failed negotiations between him and Lelo’s leader, Mamuka Khazaradze, to unite their election lists, mediated by President Zurabishvili.

President Zurabishvili has scheduled a briefing at the Orbeliani Palace for 8 p.m. local time today. The exact topic of the briefing was not announced.

With Gakharia’s signature, the Georgian Charter now includes nearly all pro-Western opposition parties. Yet, their pre-election campaigns appear to diverge from the Charter and its commitments, such as agreeing on Zurabishvili-proposed government in case of victory, scheduling early elections, or refraining from mutual criticism during the campaign.

A high-level delegation led by Shen Ying, Executive Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), visited the Alat Free Economic Zone and met with Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Authorised Body of the Zone, Azernews reports.

“We are strengthening the conventional border because any provocation can be expected from Armenia at any moment. The Armenian side is getting extensively armed. At the same time, it conducts military exercises with foreign countries and major powers. Western countries are sending weapons and ammunition to Armenia,” said President Ilham Aliyev as he addressed the first session of the seventh convocation of the Milli Majlis, Azernews reports.

“We are determined to further expand and strengthen Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia relations in all areas, particularly in economic, trade, energy, tourism, humanitarian, and other sectors,” Azernews reports, citing President Ilham Aliyev as he said in his congratulatory letter to King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the occasion of the Proclamation of the Kingdom.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King of Saudi Arabia, on the occasion of the country’s National Day, Azernews reports.

“We are determined to further expand and strengthen Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia relations in all areas, particularly in economic, trade, energy, tourism, humanitarian, and other sectors,” Azernews reports, citing President Ilham Aliyev as he said in his congratulatory letter to King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the occasion of the Proclamation of the Kingdom.
