Hurricane Beryl, a Category 1 storm, made landfall on the Texas coast early Monday morning, bringing with it devastating winds and torrential rain. The storm has resulted in multiple fatalities and widespread power outages.
At least six people have been confirmed dead due to the storm. Two individuals were killed by fallen trees, while others succumbed to various storm-related incidents.
Over 2 million residents are currently without power as the hurricane’s powerful winds and heavy rains have downed power lines and caused significant infrastructure damage.
The coastal town of Matagorda, located between Corpus Christi and Galveston, experienced winds exceeding 80 mph as Beryl made landfall. The storm surge and flash flooding have led to numerous water rescues and extensive property damage.
State disaster declarations have been issued for 121 counties, and emergency services are working tirelessly to assist those affected.
As Hurricane Beryl continues to move inland, residents are urged to stay indoors and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
