In Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, an ethnic Azerbaijani, member of the Majlis, won the second round of the 5 July presidential election.
He won 16,384,403 votes, while his rival, Ayatollah Khamenei’s representative in the Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, received 13,538,179 votes. The turnout was 49.8 per cent.
