US Air Force Chief of Staff on Georgia
The Chief of the United States Air Force Joint Staff, General Charles Brown, has stated that the US is concerned and closely monitoring Russia‘s influence in Georgia.
During a briefing, when asked whether NATO could do anything to help Georgia resist Russia’s attempts to strengthen its influence, how this affects current events in Georgia, and its path to NATO, Charles Brown said:
“We are deeply concerned and will remain true to Georgia’s sovereignty while monitoring Russia’s influence in the country. As you know, last week I met with my NATO counterparts; we consistently discuss how to work together on the sovereignty of partner countries and the overall security situation in Europe.”

On May 20th, POLITICO reported that a bill will be introduced in the US Congress, proposing the freezing of assets and visa bans for those representatives of the Georgian government who supported the law on “foreign agents” modeled after Russia.
On the same day, POLITICO wrote about another bill called the “Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act” (MEGOBARI Act, where “megobari” translates from Georgian as “friend”).
According to this bill, if the Georgian government abandons its anti-democratic course, the US will consider providing Georgia with economic and military support, as well as visa liberalization.
The program will be activated only if the US confirms that “Georgia has demonstrated significant and sustainable progress in revitalizing its democracy, evidenced by, at least, substantially free and fair elections and a balanced pre-election environment.”
Azerbaijan and Türkiye discuss military cooperation prospects – VIDEO
On May 21, the Azerbaijan Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with the delegation led by the Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, Army General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Before the meeting Turkish delegation visited the graves of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva in the Alley of Honor, as well as the Alley of Shehids (Martyrs) and Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery. The guests laid wreaths and flowers and honored their blessed memory.
The Minister of Defense Colonel General Z.Hasanov received the Turkish delegation. The Defense Minister welcomed the guests and expressed his satisfaction with seeing them in Azerbaijan. The Minister noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye are based on friendly and fraternal relations. He spoke about the positive results of the reforms held in the Azerbaijan Army under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
Army General S.Bayraktaroğlu expressed his gratitude for the hospitality shown. He emphasized that such meetings are important for the development of military cooperation between the two fraternal countries.
The meeting also discussed the development prospects of cooperation in the military, military-technical field and regional security issues.
Then the Turkish delegation met with the First Deputy Minister of Defense – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev and Advisor to the Minister of Defense, Colonel General Bakhtiyar Ersay.
The meetings at the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army expressed satisfaction with the current state of Azerbaijani-Turkish military cooperation based on mutual trust and support.
Within the official visit, the Turkish guests visited the headquarters of the Land Forces. Welcoming ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Land Forces. The visitors passed along the guard of honor. The national anthems of Azerbaijan and Türkiye were played, and the Book of Honor was signed in accordance with the protocol.
The Deputy Minister of Defense – Commander of the Land Forces, Lieutenant General Hikmat Mirzayev met with the Turkish delegation.
At the meeting, the importance of conducting joint military exercises for the purpose of increasing the professionalism of the servicemen from both fraternal countries, as well as exchanging mutual experience, was emphasized, and detailed views were exchanged on a range of other issues.

Mayın 21-də Azərbaycan Respublikasının müdafiə naziri general-polkovnik Zakir Həsənov ölkəmizdə rəsmi səfərdə olan Türkiyə Respublikası Silahlı Qüvvələrinin Quru Qoşunları komandanı ordu generalı Selçuk Bayraktaroğlunun rəhbərlik etdiyi nümayəndə heyəti ilə görüşüb.
Görüşdən əvvəl Fəxri xiyabanda xalqımızın Ümummilli Lideri Heydər Əliyevin və görkəmli oftalmoloq-alim, akademik Zərifə xanım Əliyevanın məzarları, eləcə də Şəhidlər xiyabanı və Türk Şəhidliyi ziyarət olunub, əklil və gül dəstələri qoyularaq xatirələrinə dərin hörmət və ehtiram nümayiş etdirilib.
Müdafiə naziri general-polkovnik Z.Həsənov Türkiyə nümayəndə heyətini qəbul edib. Qonaqları salamlayan müdafiə naziri onları ölkəmizdə görməkdən məmnun olduğunu bildirib. Azərbaycan və Türkiyə arasında əlaqələrin dostluq və qardaşlıq münasibətləri üzərində qurulduğunu qeyd edib. Azərbaycan Respublikasının Prezidenti, Silahlı Qüvvələrin Ali Baş Komandanı cənab İlham Əliyevin rəhbərliyi ilə Azərbaycan Ordusunda aparılan islahatların müsbət nəticələrindən danışıb.
Ordu generalı S.Bayraktaroğlu isə öz növbəsində göstərilən qonaqpərvərliyə görə təşəkkürünü bildirib. Hər iki qardaş ölkənin hərbi əməkdaşlığının inkişafı istiqamətində bu cür görüşlərin mühüm əhəmiyyətə malik olduğunu vurğulayıb.
Görüşdə, həmçinin hərbi, hərbi-texniki sahədə əməkdaşlığın inkişaf perspektivləri və regional təhlükəsizlik məsələləri müzakirə edilib.
Sonra Türkiyə nümayəndə heyəti müdafiə nazirinin birinci müavini – Azərbaycan Ordusunun Baş Qərargah rəisi general-polkovnik Kərim Vəliyev və müdafiə nazirinin müşaviri general-polkovnik Bəxtiyar Ersay ilə görüşüb.
Azərbaycan Ordusunun Baş Qərargahında keçirilən görüşlər zamanı qarşılıqlı inam, etimad və dəstəyə əsaslanan Azərbaycan-Türkiyə hərbi əməkdaşlığının hazırki vəziyyətindən məmnunluq ifadə edilib.
Türkiyəli qonaqlar rəsmi səfər çərçivəsində Quru Qoşunların qərargahını ziyarət ediblər. Qərargahda təntənəli qarşılanma mərasimi keçirilib. Fəxri qarovul dəstəsinin önündən keçiddən sonra Azərbaycan Respublikasının Dövlət Himni və Türkiyə Respublikasının İstiqlal Marşı səsləndirilib, protokola uyğun olaraq “Şərəf kitabı” imzalanıb.
Müdafiə nazirinin müavini – Quru Qoşunların komandanı general-leytenant Hikmət Mirzəyev Türkiyə nümayəndə heyəti ilə görüşüb.
Görüşdə hər iki qardaş ölkənin hərbi qulluqçularının peşəkarlığının artırılması, eyni zamanda qarşılıqlı təcrübə mübadiləsi məqsədilə birgə hərbi təlimlərin keçirilməsinin vacibliyi vurğulanıb və bir sıra digər məsələlərə dair ətraflı fikir mübadiləsi aparılıb.
