Iranian President Set to Start Pakistan, Sri Lanka Tour

In a significant move to bolster regional ties, the Iranian President is embarking on a diplomatic tour to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The visit, which begins early Monday morning, comes at the invitation of the Pakistani and Sri Lankan heads of state.

Islamabad: First Stop on the Diplomatic Journey

Upon his arrival in Islamabad, the President will be engaged in a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening economic and political relations. A private meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is on the agenda, followed by a joint session with top delegates from both nations.

The President’s itinerary also includes discussions with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and engagements with scholars, intellectuals, and economic activists across various Pakistani cities. These meetings are expected to address regional and global developments, with a focus on combating terrorism and enhancing bilateral trade.

Sri Lanka: Inauguration of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Project

The tour will continue with a one-day visit to Sri Lanka, where the President will join Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe for the official inauguration of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Project. This ambitious project, valued at approximately $500 million, features two dams and a 120-megawatt power plant and is expected to significantly boost Sri Lanka’s civil engineering capabilities.

The project aims to improve irrigation for 5000 acres of agricultural land, transfer 145 million cubic meters of water, and generate 290 GW/h of power annually. Over 400 Iranian engineers have been instrumental in the project, contributing to its design and execution.

A Step Towards Enhanced Cooperation

This tour marks a pivotal moment in Iran’s diplomatic efforts in the region. The President’s engagements are set to pave the way for deeper cooperation between Iran and its South Asian counterparts, promising a new chapter in their bilateral relations.
