Azerbaijani forces on Tuesday opened fire on Armenian military positions in the Gegharkunik and Syunik provinces, the defense ministry reported.

At around 10 p.m. local time on Monday, Azerbaijan forces fire at the positions near the Kut village in Gegharkunik Province. Later at around 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday another attack was registered near Tegh in the Syunik Province.

Ahead of this latest violation of the ceasefire, the Azerbaijani defense ministry issued a statement claiming that Armenian forces opened fire on Azerbaijani positions from 10 to 10:10 p.m. on Monday.

This fits the narrative of the Azerbaijani defense ministry, who accused Armenia of military buildup along the border.

That allegation was refuted by not only Armenia’s Defense Ministry, but also the European Union Mission in Armenia, which issued a statement on Monday saying no such buildup was observed by the mission.
