AIR Center advisor Nurad Mammadov’s article entitled “Economic, trade, and transport cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia” was published on the “vzglyad.az” website.
The author does an in-depth analysis of bilateral trade and economic ties between the two countries, as well as reviews the joint projects.
“Azerbaijan-Russia relations are based on strong mutual understanding and friendship, which has become even stronger in recent years. Trade and economic cooperation lay the foundation of Azerbaijan-Russia relations. Azerbaijan is Russia’s main trade partner among the countries of the former USSR that are not part of the Eurasian Economic Union.”
N. Mammadov states that significant progress is being observed in the field of mutual investments.
“There are 900 joint ventures operating in the Azerbaijan market, 1/3 of which are 100% owned by Russia. Over the past years, relations between business associations and small and medium-sized businesses have developed. Russian energy companies such as Gazprom, Transneft, and Lukoil are successfully operating in Azerbaijan.”
Touching on the projects in the field of transport and logistics between the parties, the author notes that one of the most promising projects is the “North-South” International Transport Corridor.
“Azerbaijan is seriously working on the modernization of its infrastructure. Special attention is paid to the restoration and improvement of the country’s railway infrastructure.
In the end, N. Mammadov notes that the prospects of creating a single logistics operator within the framework of the “North-South” project will speed up cargo transportation and strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has briefed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Armenia’s vision and approaches to the establishment of stability and peace in the South Caucasus.
During a meeting in Yerevan today, PM Pashinyan has reiterated the willingness to normalize relations with Azerbaijan based on three principles agreed at the highest level, namely recognition of each other’s territorial integrity based on the Alma-Ata Declaration, demarcation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan interstate border to restore the one existing between the two countries at the time of collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, unblocking of regional infrastructures, with respect to the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, based on the principles of equality and reciprocity. Regarding the latter, I also presented the “Crossroads of Peace” project, which completes our ideas on the subject.
The Prime Minister also briefed Jens Stoltenberg on the Crossroads of Peace project of the Armenian Government.
“We expect the firm support of the international community, including NATO, for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on well-known and mutually agreed principles, as well as the unequivocal rejection of the policy of coercion and threats,” PM Pashinyan said at a joint press conference with Stoltenberg following the meeting.
