In the annals of Palestinian suffering, a dark chapter is etched with the brutal treatment and deliberate hateful humiliation of our political prisoners by Israeli authorities. Thousands of Palestinian civilians find themselves unjustly ensnared, their fundamental human rights obliterated in a distressing display of state-sponsored racially charged brutality. This insidious pattern of oppression, echoing historical injustices, demands unwavering scrutiny and decisive international action.
Dimitri Diliani, Revolutionary Council member and the spokesperson for Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction, states that reports from freed political detainees at Israel’s Sde Teiman military detention center reveal a disturbing pattern of abuse, with detainees subjected to beatings, kicking, hunger, thirst, and degrading humiliation, all of which violate international norms and conventions on the treatment of prisoners.
Moreover, Diliani adds, “The harrowing testimonies of Palestinian political prisoners at the Gilboa and Megiddo prisons underscore a systematic campaign of aggression. In other cases, detainees were paraded half-naked to the media, as seen taking place in Gaza. Some political prisoners report being coerced into kissing the Israeli flag under the threat of violence, a blatant violation of their dignity.
Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction deplores the detention of thousands of Gaza Strip workers, indefinitely and without a charge, in deplorable conditions, a move that further exacerbates the humanitarian crisis of the Palestinian people . Furthermore, the arbitrary arrest of hundreds of young Palestinian activists for their social media posts, both in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, is a grave infringement on the right to free expression in protest of Israel’s genocidal ethnic cleansing war in Gaza.
Diliani asserts, “The inhumane treatment of Palestinian political prisoners is a clear violation of international law. We call on the international community to condemn these actions and hold Israel accountable for its blatant disregard for human rights.”
