Iran’s Navy has announced the launch of a new domestically designed and manufactured destroyer, named Deylaman, as part of its efforts to boost its naval capabilities in the region.
According to Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, Deylaman is equipped with advanced and sophisticated systems, and can perform various missions in the oceans, such as reconnaissance, anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare.
Deylaman is the fifth Jamaran-class destroyer produced by Iran’s Defense Ministry, following Jamaran, Damavand, Sahand, and Dena. These destroyers are capable of carrying helicopters, missiles, torpedoes, and electronic warfare devices.
The new destroyer will join Iran’s naval fleet in the near future, Irani said, adding that Iran does not need aircraft carriers or nuclear-powered warships, but rather focuses on developing drone carriers and asymmetric warfare tactics.
