Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged the international community to unite in finding a peaceful solution to the escalating violence between Israel and Palestine. Putin made the statement during an emergency BRICS summit on the Israel-Palestine crisis, which was held online on Tuesday.
Putin said that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a co-sponsor of the Middle East peace process, is ready to work with all parties involved to de-escalate the situation and resume dialogue. He also expressed his condolences to the victims of the conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire.
“We call to unite global efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire and seeking a political solution to the crisis. We support the efforts of the UN, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other mediators,” Putin said.
The BRICS summit, which was attended by the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, also issued a joint statement on the Israel-Palestine issue. The statement condemned the indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure and called for respect for international humanitarian law and human rights. The statement also reaffirmed the support for a two-state solution based on the relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
