Brussels summit postponed because of Azerbaijan – Armenian FM

The meeting of EU Council President Charles Michel, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expected in Brussels later this month has been postponed because of Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference alongside his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly in Yerevan.

Speaking at the “Progress in Uncertainty” conference hosted by APRI Armenia NGO earlier today, EU’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar cited “lack of time” as the reason for the postponement.

Asked who did not find time for the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan said: “Obviously, it’s the President of Azerbaijan. We are still ready to participate in that meeting. I do hope that it will be possible to agree on new dates in the near future,” Minister Mirzoyan said.

“The Republic of Armenia is ready to participate in that meeting. We remain committed to the peace agenda,” he noted.

“Two days ago I had informal interaction with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister in Tehran a couple of days ago. and Armenia remains ready to continue to work on the peace process, including the signing of a peace treaty,” Minister Mirzoyan said.
