Israel-Lebanon border violence escalates amid rocket attacks

The situation at the Israel-Lebanon border remains tense and volatile, as both sides exchange fire and accuse each other of violating international commitments.

The conflict has raised fears of a wider regional escalation, involving the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the Palestinian faction Hamas, which have been fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip for over a week.

The border tension has also affected the lives of thousands of residents of southern Lebanese villages near the border with Israel, who have been fleeing their homes in fear of a potential war breaking out between Israel and Hezbollah. Some of them have witnessed previous wars between the two sides, such as the 2006 conflict that killed more than 1,000 people in Lebanon and 160 in Israel.

Hezbollah, which is allied with Hamas and Iran, has expressed its support for the Palestinian cause and condemned Israel’s aggression.

Nevertheless, the possibility of a third war between Israel and Lebanon cannot be ruled out, as both sides have shown their readiness to use force and have amassed large arsenals of weapons. The international community has urged both sides to de-escalate the situation and resume negotiations to resolve their disputes peacefully. However, with no clear end in sight for the Gaza war and no sign of compromise from either side, the region remains on edge.
