China’s State Council Information Office on Tuesday released a white paper titled “The Belt and Road Initiative: A Key Pillar of the Global Community of Shared Future.”

The white paper, which consists of six chapters and 45 articles, elaborates on the vision, principles, achievements, and prospects of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global development strategy proposed by China in 2013 to promote international cooperation and connectivity.

According to the white paper, the BRI aims to build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, based on the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.

The white paper also highlights the significant progress and fruitful outcomes of the BRI in various fields, such as infrastructure, trade, investment, finance, cultural exchange, environmental protection, and public health.

As of July 2021, China has signed 209 cooperation documents with 140 countries and 31 international organizations under the BRI framework. The BRI has also contributed to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by facilitating vaccine distribution and medical assistance to over 150 countries and international organizations.

The white paper stresses that the BRI is an open and inclusive platform for international cooperation that welcomes the participation of all countries and regions, as well as international and regional organizations. It also reaffirms China’s commitment to upholding multilateralism, promoting green development, and enhancing global governance through the BRI.
