Azerbaijan, Serbia discuss topical issues on current agenda of cooperation

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Orlic, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting AzerTac.

During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues on the agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia, as well as the current situation in the region.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of reciprocal contacts and visits, particularly the ongoing political discussion between the two leaders in terms of developing the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia in various fields.

Noting that Serbia has consistently supported Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the past Armenia-Azerbaijani conflict, as well as during the post-conflict period, FM Bayramov emphasized that the use of double standards in relation to the core principles of international law is unacceptable.

Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the Serbian Speaker about the current situation in the post-conflict period in the region, the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the peace process, as well as the initiatives taken to reintegrate Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region.

Speaking of the anti-terrorist measures implemented in response to the provocations of the Armenian armed forces, which, in violation of international law, continued to maintain their presence in the territories of Azerbaijan after the end of the occupation, the FM pointed out that as a result of these measures, the scale of illegal militarization in the Karabakh region became clear to everyone again.

He mentioned that despite the elimination of this real threat to regional peace and security, today a number of countries are taking extremely dangerous steps to project their domestic political agendas on the region in various ways.

Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Orlic expressed his satisfaction with the fact that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received him. The Speaker expressed his confidence that such visits would contribute to the development of the current friendly relations between the two countries at various levels, including the inter-parliamentary one.

“Despite the fact that the situation in the region is completely clear, the contradictory positions put forward by a number of countries against the international law and current realities are regrettable,” Vladimir Orlic said.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
