More than 100 people have been killed and at least 500 injured after a series of powerful earthquakes struck western Afghanistan on Saturday.

The quakes caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure, trapping people under rubble and cutting off power and communication lines.

Many people fled their homes and took shelter in the streets, fearing more tremors.
