On September 17, from 00:20 to 00:40, Armenian armed forces units from the positions in the directions of the Zarkand and Yukhari Zaghali settlements of the Basarkechar district using small arms subjected to fire the Azerbaijan Army positions stationed in the directions of the Damirchidam and Istisu settlements of the Kalbajar district, Azernews reports, citing the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

On September 16, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Senior Adviser to the U.S. State Department for Negotiations in the Caucasus Louis Bono. They discussed the situation in the region, normalization, and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and current threats and challenges, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan, citing the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bayramov stressed that “the hindering party in the implementation of the agreement on the simultaneous opening of the Aghdam-Khankendi road and the Lachin road, reached during the conversation between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on September 1, is Armenia and the illegal regime created by it.”
He added that this fact once again confirms that, contrary to the allegations of an alleged “humanitarian crisis” and “blockade” in the region, the situation is not humanitarian, but political in nature.
Bayramov stated that the repetition of false narratives of the Armenian side by a number of international partners, including the United States, is unacceptable, despite the fact that they are well aware of the situation in the region and Armenia’s military and political provocations, its support for separatism in Azerbaijani territories against the background of Baku’s constructive position.
In this regard, Bayramov expressed regret over the reflection of unfounded allegations of Armenia, which has not yet withdrawn all its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, in a speech by US Assistant Secretary of State Yuri Kim (in the US Senate).
Despite the fact that Armenia and the so-called regime prevented the parallel opening of roads in accordance with the agreement of September 1 with the American side, her statements in the US Senate formed a misconception about the situation.
At the same time, Bayramov confirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to the agreement on parallel use of roads. During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

The Armenian Church celebrates today Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the last of the five major feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is the most important feast among the feasts dedicated to the Holy Cross, as it is dedicated to the history of the return of the Holy Cross from imprisonment, its elevation and glorification. In the Armenian Apostolic Church the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is celebrated on Sunday during the period between September 11-17. This year that date is September 17, and the Monday following the Feast is a Memorial Day.
In 610 A. D, the Persian King Khosrov with a large army attacks the Byzantine Empire. Enthusiastic about the initial victory, in 614 A. D. the Persian army enters Jerusalem. Many people are killed and many are imprisoned. Pontiff Zakaria, the Patriarch of Jerusalem is imprisoned, too. However, the Persians are not satisfied and enter the Church of Holy Sepulcher and take the Holy Cross kept in the Church. The Holy Cross had been found and installed in the Church for the Christians to worship by Heghineh, the mother of the King Costandianos, in the beginning of the 4th century.
In 628 A. D., the Byzantine army led by the King Herakles fight against the Persians to return the Holy Cross. The Armenian army regiment, led by Mzhezh Gnounie, supported the Persian army. With the Lord’s help the Byzantine army wins the battle.
The Holy Cross is solemnly brought to the Armenian town Karin, from where it is carried to Constantinople, and then – to Jerusalem. On the way the Holy Cross was raised for the people to see and worship.
For Christians the Cross is God’s power and strength and pride of all prides, on which Christ’s innocent blood was shed. By means of the Cross Jesus proved His love towards mankind, and the Cross became for us the symbol of hope, love and saving.
