Five years ago today, the second war over #NagornoKarabakh ended with #Azerbaijan militarily seizing parts of the region, with support from #Turkey and credible evidence of Syrian jihadist mercenaries (particularly in the territory’s south, Jabrail, Horadiz, Fuzuli). Under PM Pashinyan, #Armenia pulled back support for its ethnic kin, leaving local Armenians to fend for themselves. What wasn’t taken by force was later ceded by Armenia (Aghdam, Kalbajar, Lachin areas), leading to the loss of NK’s de facto statehood.
Today, Azerbaijan is at the height of its power with major international partners and allies. Armenia, by contrast, has seen its sovereignty eroded and is struggling to survive as a state, with the current government having no serious international allies or partners, ironically relying on support from Baku and Ankara. x.com/NKobserver/status/1325921706242813954
